About the practice

“My son Jordan was diagnosed with at three weeks old and from that point on he was on and off albuterol, xopenex, and pulmicort. After his first birthday, Dr. Huang suggested that he be tested for allergies and the results were astonishing; not only was he allergic to the top three allergens soy, dairy and gluten, but he also had about four other food allergies. Once these allergic foods were eliminated from his diet, his eczema cleared up completely; however, whenever he got a cold he would start wheezing almost immediately. This summer Dr. Huang recommended acupuncture as a way to prevent his ‘asthmatic’ episodes during the upcoming cold and flu season. Jordan had four acupuncture treatments during the summer and he also began taking Chinese herbs to strengthen his lungs. Since the summer he has had three or four colds and he has never wheezed. We have not had to use any of his asthma medications since his acupuncture and herbal treatments this summer. (By the way, Jordan loved the acupuncture treatments; he never cried and he sat quietly on my lap while Dr. Huang did the procedure.)”

I believe that there are many ways to heal a sick body. But for a very sick body (chronic fatigue syndrome, recurrent infections) or to achieve a miracle (having healthy baby from couples with infertilities, bringing calm smile back to your depressed teen's face without Prozac), the best way is to use many modalities together.

For example, the root cause of many health issues is our immune system. God gave us wonderful immunities to keep ourselves healthy. It takes years of abuse from our behavior and our environment to destroy our immunities. Of course, it will take a concerted effort to restore our failed immunities. You will need to eat healthy, live a healthy lifestyle, detox your body, take supplements, and perhaps receive some herbal or acupuncture treatments. If medications are necessary, I will also prescribe those for you. A parent once asked me, “How do you know which tool works if we use all of them together?” I don't care which one works, because I am not experimenting on my patients. All I want is to heal my patient, whatever it takes.

Another example: there are wonderful acupuncture and herbal treatments for chronic recurrent sinusitis. But I know that the most direct and effective way to cure a sinus infection and prevent its recurrence is to irrigate the sinuses. I have a very powerful yet friendly sinus irrigation machine; this is a traditional medical machine yet a very holistic tool. I will do sinus irrigation as the first treatment, and then I will do an allergy work-up and a general work-up, which are traditional medical procedures. Eliminating the offending factors and irrigating the sinus takes care of most sinus problems. If the patient still needs further help, I will use herbs to strengthen immunity, and I will apply acupuncture to balance the meridian and strengthen the organs.

As you can see, the more modalities a physician knows, the more effectively he can help the patient. I was double boarded with the American Board of Pediatrics and the American Board of Medical Acupuncture. As an MD with both medical and acupuncture licenses to practice western and eastern medicine, I was trusted with this privilege to help my patients. Above all these, I really want to heal my patients holistically, and I take great pride and pleasure doing this.
